Wanda Joy McAtee passed away peacefully with her children by her side at the age of 87 on Jan. 21, 2019.
Wanda was born in Eureka, and met her beloved husband, Pete, while in high school. The sweethearts were married shortly after high school in Reno, Nevada, at the Mapes Hotel and just celebrated 68 wonderful years together on Nov. 10. Wanda was filled with love and kindness and known to everyone in her small town of Greenville as “Sweet Wanda.”
Wanda is survived by her husband, Lewis Deverl (Pete) McAtee, of Greenville; her son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Rita McAtee, of McKinleyville; her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Robert Miller, of Bayside; and her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Jeff Utley, of Rocklin; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As a loving mother to Dale, Kathy and Diane, her heart and home was always open to their friends as she considered and loved them like her own. She was a kind person who showed tolerance and grace and exhibited a quiet strength and resilience in the most trying of times. Her happiest moments were being surrounded by family and those she loved.
Her lovely smile will forever be in our heart.
